Taking Ibsen's Peer Gynt as a starting point, The Emperor Self was an exploration of Henrich Ibsen, and his works.

The characters in the play were archetypes from Ibsen's worlds - both in imagination and reality, taking inspiration from his characters, and the significant figures in his life.
